Starbucks x Claremont Foods

Elevate the Brand

Add innovative, high-quality protein bars to the Starbucks product family that complement existing food and beverage offerings.

Unlock Efficiency

By partnering with Claremont Foods to create private label Starbucks protein bars, improve margins while driving revenue.

We have developed an array of plant-based protein bars with an eye to how they would pair with existing Starbucks coffees.

Behind the Scenes

Learn more about the behind-the-scenes of developing these sample bars below, including: studying the Starbucks brand, taking inspiration from the culinary world, developing specific flavor notes and qualities, and a deep understanding of the protein bar category.

Pairing bar flavors with Starbucks coffee roasts

The inspiration for these bars was driven by Starbucks’ selection of coffee roasts and their flavor profiles. Drawing on Claremont Foods’ extensive knowledge in cold-pressed bar formulation and flavor development, we paired different Starbucks coffees with flavors and textures that are familiar, but different from what we currently see in the bar category.

Blending the familiar and the unconventional

We drew from bakery and dessert trends to offer healthier indulgences. Miso in the dessert world emerged years ago and we see it gaining popularity on dessert menus across the country, from Christina Tosi’s baked goods, to being featured in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times recipes. While combining miso and butterscotch may sound exotic, at its core, it is a different take on salted caramel. Blending the familiar with the unconventional is a way to excite consumers by staying on trend.

Elevating the classics

However, we understand everyone loves the classic flavors, which is why we included familiar favorites such as Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and a Peanut Butter bar. Chocolate chip cookie dough’s unbaked texture pairs perfectly with the ingredients used in cold-pressed bars.

To elevate this from its peers, we added a note of brown butter that goes along perfectly with dark chocolate chips and the crunch from light brown sugar.

And while coffee cake itself is well-known, it is unusual to see it as a protein bar flavor. Using cinnamon sprinkles and cinnamon streusel, we were able to bring a bakery classic into the health space with 12g of protein and 7g of added sugar.

Delicious and visually aesthetic

The Strawberry & Cream (playing off of Starbucks’ famous Strawberry Frappuccino) and Everything Bagel bars feature drizzles that have been colored and flavored. These give the bars an eye-catching look and show another side of Claremont’s processing capabilities.

Flavor Profiles

All of these bars contain only natural ingredients, have 10-12 grams of plant-based protein, are low in sugar and are between 140 - 190 calories.

  • Packed with dark chocolate chips, brown sugar, and rich, brown butter flavor.

  • Fudgy peanut butter pairs perfectly with sweet white chocolate chips. A classic protein bar flavor profile at its best.

  • Bright red strawberries, strawberry powder, and a pink drizzle give this bar a fruity, jammy kick, perfect for kids and adults.

  • Butter and cinnamon are the stars for coffee’s favorite cake, enhanced with cinnamon sprinkles and cinnamon streusel.

  • The deep chocolate flavor comes from using black cocoa powder and dark chocolate chips reminiscent of the classic cake that made a Brooklyn bakery famous.

  • An updated spin on salted caramel, with a hit of umami to balance out the sweetness of the decadent, butterscotch-molasses notes.

  • A savory-sweet bar that mimics the iconic spice blend. Cream cheese powder gives the bar a creamy tang, while the cream cheese drizzle adds a hint of sweetness.
